What Do Alumni Think?
The first Fisher Alumni Online Survey was conducted in Winter 2008. The purpose of the Survey was to gauge awareness and interest in Fisher College, its mission, and its impact on their lives then and now. Fisher alumni are proud of their college’s reputation, and see room for improvement. We couldn’t agree more. Here is what respondents shared with us, along with our findings.
Engagement
Nearly 230 alumni from 24 states participated. Six decades were represented in roughly equal proportion, a sign that online participation is not limited solely to younger graduates. For the most part, alumni indicated an interest in playing a role in alumni relations programs, but were unclear about the avenues for becoming engaged. Kristen Sherman, Director of Alumni Relations & Advancement Programs, said, “We need Alumni Board members to help us shape the direction of the Alumni Association so we can capitalize on all of the talents and

interests of Fisher’s alumni community.” Finally, the record participation in this year’s Annual Fund proves that alumni understand that investment in Fisher also makes a difference. Indeed, 77% of respondents indicated the importance of scholarships to college life and learning.
Pride & Identity
There are strong feelings for Fisher College, no matter when respondents attended. The vast majority of respondents (67%) scoredtheir fondness for Fisher as either a 6 or 7 on a 7-point scale. The “Fisher experience” was powerful
and formative. Alumni were virtually unanimous (94%) in expressing the importance of education in their lives and 69% saw Fisher as being instrumental in their professional advancement. A near- majority believes they can have an impact on students (47%). We do too.
Awareness
Most alumni get their news from Fisher Today and Annual Fund mailings (68%). More than 11% of respondents learn about goings-on at Fisher from classmates. Alumni want more, however, and we are delivering. In addition to traditional mailings, Alumni Relations is making more personal calls and arranging phone- a-thons. The launchof the Fisher College Alumni Association page on Facebook gets us online. Speaker panels featuring alumni are being scheduled. Class
leaders are being recruited (calling class presidents and other officers!) to keep their classmates up-to-date and to begin preparations for milestone year reunions. Alumni Relations is building programs with Student Government and building excitement about student involvement in alumni events, including the Phone-a-thon and Reunion.
Connections
There were many inquiries about alumni chapters. We are excited that alumni, for both social and cause-based reasons, want to connect with local graduates. We are pursuing chapters in Cape Cod and New Hampshire. Richard Levitt, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and a native Garden Stater, is keenly interested in forming a New Jersey Chapter. Join in the Chapter conversations on Fisher’s Alumni Association page on Facebook.
